Frequently asked questions

1. Who can use the portal?

Portal access is currently limited to licensed automotive dismantlers and dealers in the contiguous United States. If you’re not a licensed auto dismantler and feel you have an applicable use case for access, please email us at EVbattery@redwoodmaterials.com 

2. What types of batteries does Redwood accept?

Redwood will accept all lithium-ion (Li-ion) and nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries from any auto recycler who has an EV or hybrid battery pack

3. Does Redwood accept EV packs that are Damaged, Defective or Recalled (DDR)?

Redwood does accept DDR batteries but not through this online portal. If you have a DDR battery to recycle, please send us an email at: EVbattery@redwoodmaterials.com 

4. What steps should I take if I have a pack to recycle?

Redwood provides instant offers for EV or hybrid battery packs. Get started here and see how much your packs are worth. After accepting our offer, we'll pick up the pack(s).

5. Do I have to take the battery pack out of the car?

Yes, Redwood only accepts EV or hybrid packs which have been removed safely from the vehicle. 

6. Can I ship the pack(s) directly to Redwood?

The portal is currently configured for shipments processed by Redwood’s Logistics team. If you would like to ship on your own, please send us an email at: EVbattery@redwoodmaterials.com. 

7. How long does it take to get paid?

Payment terms are 14 days from material receipt at our site in Nevada. Material will be validated for accuracy before payment is issued.  

8. How do I package the EV battery pack?

Yes, EV or hybrid batteries are considered hazardous materials and must be packaged and shipped by a hazmat trained employee according to Department of Transportation (DOT) rules defined in 49 CFR. Redwood shares guidance on shipping via our Battery Shipping Guidelines.

9. I don’t know how to identify the pack, can you help?

Our online portal is designed to identify an EV or hybrid pack based on vehicle year, make and model, VIN, or OEM Part #. If you’re unable to identify your pack based on these paths, please send us an email at: EVbattery@redwoodmaterials.com.

10. I don’t see my battery pack listed; can you provide a price on it?

Please send us an email at EVbattery@redwoodmaterials.com with as much information as you can on the battery (year, make and model of its vehicle, pictures and any labels). 

  

11. I’m not a licensed auto dismantler or dealer but have a pack to recycle
